The melting pot metaphor and rainbow each represent American society well. However, if I were to make own metaphor I would pick a quilt to represent the diversity of America. A quilt is comprised different fabrics, colors, patterns, and textures that blend together to create a beautiful piece of art. Quilts vary from shapes and sizes and each have their own unique touch to them.
Each section of a quilt could be though of each ethnicity that exists in American culture. These races are sown together to create one blanket. The different parts of the quilt must hold and work together into create one complete quilt. This same idea can be applied to racial differences. All racial groups must work together for the good of society. If the parts of society do not work together, the community falls apart, just like broken seams in a tapestry.
I hope you were able to understand my metaphor of American society and I look forward to reading yours as well.

Dear Jossshhuaa,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post about the representation of America as a quilt. I can agree that if society does not work together, the community can fall apart just like the seams in a tapestry. I chose to compare it to a rainbow where each color is independent of the other, but they blend together perfectly to create a beautiful rainbow.
I think there are many comparisons we can make. However, the most important thing is that whether we are squares sewn together or colors of a rainbow, we are all individuals that must work together to create peace and respect for each other.
Great post. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteDear Jossshhuaa,
ReplyDeleteThe way you described how a quilt can represent different races(ethnicities), was a fantastic example!. The different fabrics, colors, patterns, and textures, definitely vary among sizes and shapes, that can represent each and every one of us. Like the different parts of the quilt, the differences in all of us in the United States, work together to create a amazing quilt/country. The better we work to together, the better our society becomes. We are already a great society, the lets make an even greater effort to support differences, and grow in unison every day.
Outstanding post and picture!
Keep up the good work.

I love your post. The picture you choose represented America perfectly. And your description of the quilt was perfect. I think the correlation between American society and the quilt is self explanatory by the image. The quilt is so bright, colorful and no pattern is the same, just like American Society. Thought the quilt has multiple different designs and colors they all compliment each other. Overall great post, I really enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteI thought your metaphor was great! It really made since and I also liked how you explained why you picked your metaphor. Its true that we all do have to work together to make are society great. I think we all do this well and were able to live among all the different races. Another thing I thought was good was puting a picture up to show the many colors and designs. This is a really a good example to show that are society is diverse but able to work together. Your post also gave me some good ideas to pick for my metaphor! Thanks!!
